CAN Phantom vs Ghost immobiliser: what’s the difference?

Two separate products in the same security category. How to compare them without confusing a brand name with a type of immobiliser.

Updated 6 October 2026

CAN Phantom is not Autowatch Ghost

Autowatch Ghost and CAN Phantom are different products from different manufacturers. CAN Phantom is made by CAN-PHANTOM Limited and is not an Autowatch product. AccuKey® supplies and fits CAN Phantom; we do not offer Autowatch Ghost installation.

People sometimes use 'Ghost immobiliser' as shorthand for a code-operated aftermarket immobiliser. That can make quotes confusing. Ask for the actual product and manufacturer in writing, rather than assuming that every installer using the phrase supplies the same system.

What they have in common — and what that does not tell you

Both sit in the aftermarket CAN-bus immobiliser category and add a driver-authorisation step before the vehicle can be driven. The aim is to make a working key alone insufficient.

Sharing a category does not make them interchangeable. Their features, certification and compatibility lists are their own. We do not make claims here about Ghost's current specification, price or approvals, or claim that one product is universally better.

The confirmed CAN Phantom features to consider

  • A personal, changeable sequence entered using compatible controls already in the vehicle, with automatic re-arming when the vehicle is switched off.
  • Valet Mode for a trusted garage or valeter, set for a chosen period without sharing your personal sequence.
  • An emergency PIN card supplied at installation and a two-year manufacturer warranty.
  • UN116 / R116 certification for the CP24 unit, as stated by CAN Phantom. AccuKey® does not claim Thatcham approval.
  • CAN Phantom states that its system is designed, developed and manufactured in the UK.

Compare the fit for your car, not just the headline

First establish whether each product supports your exact vehicle. Next consider the daily routine: which controls you use, how you arrange servicing, what help is available if you forget your sequence, and who provides support after fitting.

If your insurer asks for a particular approval or product, get confirmation before paying for installation. UN116 / R116 and Thatcham are different schemes; neither a search result nor a general description of a 'Ghost-style' system proves that a policy requirement is met.

What AccuKey® can advise on

AccuKey® appears in CAN Phantom's official installer directory under Rochdale. Our advice and installation service are for CAN Phantom, and we check the vehicle before booking rather than assuming compatibility.

Use the CAN Phantom service page for the current supplied-and-fitted offer and regional installation information. For current Autowatch Ghost specifications, consult Autowatch or an installer who actually supplies that product. A fair comparison starts with accurate information about both systems.
